FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does your firm offer notary services?

    Yes

  • Is your firm currently accepting new clients?

    Yes

  • What are the hours of your office?

Our office is open from 9-5 Monday-Friday.

  • Do you really offer free consultations, how long does that last?

Average time for a free consultation is 30 minutes.

  • What documents do you need for my divorce?

Personal records, financial records, assets/debts information, business records, and any evidence to support your claims.

  • My ex is always late with my support payments. I must call him and remind him to send me a check. What can I do about it?

You have the right and obligation to file an enforcement motion with the court. You will want to make clear in your motion that your ex is not making the required monthly payments. You should make it known that they are receiving cash payments and under reporting income to avoid paying child support. After it is filed, the court will set a hearing date.

  • How is the amount of child support determined?

The amount of child support is determined based upon a percentage of the obligor’s income. State statute determines how child support is calculated in Texas.

  • Do I need a criminal defense lawyer if I have been falsely accused?

Yes, you especially need a lawyer if you've been falsely accused.

  • What can I do if my driver’s license was suspended?

We can apply for an occupational license so that you can drive and operate a motor vehicle for essential purposes such as going to and from work, school, grocery store, doctor's office, court, probation department, etc.

  • When buying real property for my business, do I need to get an environmental site assessment?

Some lenders require an environmental site assessment, and there are situations where it makes sense to get one. If the chance of finding any problem seems remote, should you skip an expensive assessment? You’re probably doing yourself a disservice if you don’t get one, as any problem that arises could result in catastrophic liability exposure for you even if you didn’t cause it.

  • Should my spouse and I have a joint will or separate wills?

Yes, married couples have separate wills.

  • In case of a lawsuit, what happens next?

If you receive notice of a lawsuit, then you must answer the suit within the specific time period. These time periods are typically very short. If you fail to answer the suit within the appropriate period, you may lose the case (this is causing a default.) It becomes much more expensive to reverse a default judgment, so timing is the key. Once you answered the suit, the “discovery” portion of the case begins. During this phase, either side can ask questions of the other side regarding the case.

  • Is there a deadline for filing a lawsuit?

If you fail to answer the suit within the appropriate time period, you lose the case.
